The EIU Democracy Index scores 167 countries and territories on a 0–10 scale of democracy. The overall score, democracy_index, is the simple average of five category scores — electoral process and pluralism, functioning of government, political participation, political culture, and civil liberties — each also on a 0–10 scale. Each country is assigned a regime classification: Full democracy, Flawed democracy, Hybrid regime, or Authoritarian regime. This is the CURRENT free version only: the 2024 edition, a single-year cross-section (one row per country for 2024). It is not a multi-year time series; earlier editions are not included.
