The Correlates of Insurgency records 286 counterinsurgency (COIN) war cases fought by incumbent states against insurgencies, 1808-2005. Each row is one insurgency war case, coded from the incumbent's viewpoint. It captures the incumbent country and its COW code, start/end dates, the insurgent side, the war outcome (win/draw/loss), and a rich set of technology and military-capability indicators (machine-war era, railway use, mechanization, vehicles, military personnel, helicopters, great-power status, and CINC power share), plus insurgent external support. It is a core source for studying why incumbents win or lose counterinsurgency wars.
