The Correlates of War National Material Capabilities dataset measures state capabilities annually from 1816 to 2022. Each row is a state-year and contains military expenditure and personnel, iron and steel production, primary energy consumption, total and urban population, and the Composite Index of National Capability (CINC). Historical entities and predecessor-state periods—including Yugoslavia, the pre-1992 Russia/USSR series, Czechoslovakia, East and West Germany, North and South Yemen, and pre-unification Vietnam—retain their original entity, state abbreviation, and COW code but have null current-map ISO3 values.
