LEAD records the personal background and experience of national leaders. Each row in the downloaded v1.0 file is a leader or office spell, not a country-year average: it includes office dates, age, gender, education, military and rebel experience, prior occupations, political experience, and selected health attributes. The file contains 2,965 records across 191 COW country codes, with office endings from 1875 through 2004. One leader identifier appears on two cross-year records and is retained rather than silently deduplicated.
