The Political Terror Scale measures state violence against persons (extrajudicial killings, torture, political imprisonment, disappearance) on a 1-5 scale, coded from annual reports of Amnesty International (pts_amnesty), Human Rights Watch (pts_hrw) and the U.S. State Department (pts_state); higher values indicate more severe state terror. This country-year panel covers 1976-2025.
